Pakistan vs England - Post Match Analysis

First Test Match 13-17 October at UAE

It was one of the closest match ever. Pakistan team struggled on the 5th and last day of the match and almost lost the match, all the thanks to bad light that caused the match to end before all the remaining overs could be bowled;
The match started with Pakistani batting who were able to score a huge score of 523 for the loss of 8 wickets. Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and Asad Shafiq batted responsibly to take Pakistan to that score, Shoaib Malik scored a double century, While Asad Shafiq scored a century, Mohammad Hafeez who batted smoothly got out 2 runs short of his century. Pakistani batsmen dominated the match for almost two full days of the test match. Pakistan team declared the first innings at this score and invited England team to bat.
England in their first innings proved to be as solid as rock and gave a solid reply to Pakistani score of 523 by scoring 598 for the loss of 9 wickets. The biggest star of the England batting line up was Alaister Cook, who scored a massive score of 263, that was truly a captain's performance under the circumstances, usually we see teams chasing big scores get under pressure and wickets fall at random intervals. Ian Bell, Jo Root and Stokes all batted well scored half centuries and contributed to the score.

Both teams displayed solid batting performance, England's successful batting answer boosted their confidence level, that showed in the later part of the match. After four days of monotonous play, that was dominated by batsmen, 5th day proved completely different. England's bowling line up attacked the Pakistani batsmen, they were also supported by wicket, as it started getting, spin and bounce. Both the England Spinners were proved very successful. The debutant Adil Rasheed bowled really well in good areas in the rough areas of the pitch and extracted good spin, as a result he was successful in getting five wickets, Muen Ali, the other spinner also picked up two important wickets including Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan team captain. Pakistani batting line up proved to be wall of sand, all the batsmen were back to pavilion scoring only 173 runs. Only Misbah was able to score half century, no other batsmen reached any significant milestone.
England was given only 99 runs target at the terminal time of the test match. Although, officially 19 overs were to be bowled, but due to bad light and over time only 11 overs were bowled and the match was ended by the umpires. Although England had already lost 4 wickets chasing 99 runs, but at the end of the match they only required another 25 runs only to win the match. So i think this match was completely in England's favour if they had 3-4 more overs to bat.
I think as a result of England team's performance and strong come back in the lateral part of the match they will be more confident to go in the next matches, it is a very long series, so this performance will really help England in the upcoming games. On the other hand Pakistan team's bowling attack looked rusty, i understand that Yasir Shah was unfit but they should have a substitute spin bowler to cover his space, this is something that even the captain of the Pakistan team has complained about to the team management. We hope that in the coming matches Pakistan will come up with a better and balanced side to live up to the expectations.
